Nuits Saint Georges, 1er Cru Domaine des Perdrix

Year: 1996
RP Rating: 91

This dark ruby-colored wine underwent a 15-20% saignee and was aged in 80% new oak barrels. Aromatically displaying violets, perfume (these two olfactory characteristics seem to be present in most of the wines made by or associated with the Maison Antonin Rodet in 1996), and blueberries, this wine has excellent intensity and concentration to its medium-to-full-bodied, highly-structured, and foursquare personality. Layers of blackberries, cassis, plums, black raspberries, and other dark fruits can be found in this superbly ripe offering. Projected maturity: 2002-2006+.

The Domaine des Perdrix, recently purchased by Bertrand Devillard (the director of Maison Antonin Rodet) and his wife, markets its wines through Rodet's sales network. I was impressed with the estate's 1996s. The dazzling Echezeaux is one of the finest examples I have tasted from that grand cru vineyard. - Pierre Rovani 1998 -
